Glacier NP driving tour

http://www.bestwesternflatheadlake.com/going-to-the-sun-road/

You can also drive yourself.  If you are going to do so, we suggest you make a loop around Glacier National Park and soak up a truly scenic drive.  Driving yourself provides more freedom but it can also create stress for the driver.  Be sure to pull off often if you can so the driver can fully appreciate the views.  Also, if your vehicle doesn’t do hills well, bring extra coolant or water.  Tip: if you are passing through East Glacier after 5pm be sure to go to Serranos for some of the best Mexican food in Northwest Montana.

Closing dates vary greatly from mid-September to late October.  Regardless of the weather it will not be open later than the monday after the 3rd full weekend in October.

TOUR ITINERARY

6 DAYS/5 NIGHTS

we explore the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road (east to west). As the sun lights up the peaks, we’ll take in the beauty of the 40 mile drive to Lake McDonald with frequent stops along the way to watch for mountain goats and the ever present grizzlies. Near the beginning of our journey, we’ll stop and enjoy a neat hike to several picture-perfect waterfalls. On the other side of Logan Pass, we’ll stop to eat a picnic lunch overlooking a stunning view of the western valleys. Near the end of the famous road, take a short hike on the Trail of the Cedars and then transfer to our home for the night, Lake McDonald Lodge.

At Logan Pass in US Glacier National Park atop the Continental Divide at about 6,646 feet of elevation, many
tourists were hiking on the 1.5-mile boardwalk trail to go to see the Hidden Lake, many mountain goats and
other wildlife.
