Venezia
Santa Lucia railway
station is located in the historic city of Venice. Trains cross the Ponte della
Libertà to mainland Italy on its first portion of the journey to Italy’s
capital. It takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to take the trip on the rails
from Venice to Rome. Prices generally start at €29 and go up to €80.
Venezia
Mestre railway
station is on the mainland portion of Venice. It is open through the night;
Venezia Santa Lucia is closed at night. A short bus ride may be taken from the
historic city to this station. Train rides from here to Rome last between 3
hours 26 minutes and 3 hours 28 minutes. The price range for trips originating
from here is similar
to those leaving from Venezia Santa Lucia.
Roma
Termini is
the destination railway station in Rome. It is also the city’s largest and is
centrally located. Being at the center of the metro system, it's the easiest
entry point for Rome.
Taking
a train is the roomiest
of the three primary travel options available for those taking this trip.
Another plus is that train travel allows travelers to quickly make the journey from city center to city
center. The scenery on this route is also noteworthy and is not
accessible to those flying.
Plane
Marco
Polo International Airport is
the airport that serves Venice. It is located on the mainland. Travelers can
reach it via direct bus service from Piazzale Roma, the bus terminal located in
Venice near Venezia Santa Lucia. The flight to Rome takes about 65 minutes.
Flights
from Venice to Rome land at Leonardo
da Vinci-Fiumicino International Airport. The easiest way to travel
from here into the city is to take Leonardo
Express trains
for the 31 minute, 23 mile journey to Roma Termini. Local train service is also
available from Fiumicino Aeroporto railway station.
Two
companies provide non-stop air travel between these two destinations:Alitalia and easyJet.
Reservations may be made at the Alitalia website and the
easyJet website. Costs when purchasing a seat from Alitalia range from
approximately €50 to €150 while easyJet rates range from about €35 to €75.
Taking
a plane is the quickest route between the two cities once you get in the air.
Bus
The
easiest way to reserve a bus trip from Venice to Rome is to visit Eurolines and
make a reservation there. The trip costs €45 and takes about eight hours with a transfer
required in the middle of the trip. There are about three trips a day. Buses
depart from Piazzale
Roma. The primary reason why bus travel is not a preferred option
for long-distance travel within Italy is because there is no nationalized bus
company.
